First Onsite CoDe-ICI workshop

The first on-site CoDe-ICI workshop took place at the WHO Hub for Pandemic Preparedness and Epidemic Intelligence in Berlin on the 19th and 20th October 2023. Partners and guests from more than 20 institutions and 8 countries joined an active, productive and exciting event.

Training online workshops

Three online training courses on surveillance of hospital infections (HAI) and antimicrobial use were held on in May and June 2023 by Friederike Maechler for six hospitals in Nigeria. Subsequently, a pilot study with one-month surveillance of HAI and antimicrobial use was done on 12 wards in 6 Nigerian hospitals.

Online project meetings

The goals of the second online project meeting on 18th October 2022 from 11am to 2pm were:

  • Networking (e.g. with CoDe-ICI project partners, colleagues from hospitals in the LMIC settings and colleagues from other global health infection control projects)

  • Report and discuss the first activities within the CoDe-ICI project.

  • Planning the next activities within the CoDe-ICI project.

 

The second workshop with 40 participants from 10 countries was interactive and included activities in break-out rooms, discussions in small groups, and ad hoc surveys.

Luisa Denkel and Carolin Hackmann, Institute of Hygiene und Environmental Medicine, Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany who presented first results of systematic umbrella reviews on successful BSI / SSI interventions and surveys conducted with tools from multi criterion decision analysis (MCDA).

 

Joachim Trebbe and Pourang Zarif Karimi from the Media Analysis / Research Methods, Freie Universität Berlin, Germany and Muhammad Augie Bashar from the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria, Division reported together first results of their focus group analysis on hand hygiene in Nigerian hospitals.

Kick-off

The Kick-off meeting was held on 10th March 2022 from 11 am to 1pm.

The focus of this meeting was

  • Networking (e.g. with CoDe-ICI project partners, colleagues from hospitals in the LMIC settings and colleagues from other global health infection control projects)

  • Planning the first activities within the CoDe-ICI project.

 

More than 40 participants from 9 countries gained a first insight into the diversity of existing global health projects and hospitals in LMIC settings during fascinating presentations by colleagues from UK, Germany, India and Nigeria.

Brar Piening, Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany presented the NEO-IPC project https://neoipc.org/

 

Paul Turner, Cambodia Oxford Medical Research Unit, University of Oxford, UK gave an interesting insight to the ACORN project, https://www.oucru.org/project/acorn/

 

Ben Cooper, University of Oxford, UK reported on study designs for clinical trials.

 

Tochi Okwor (Nigerian CDC) presented the amazing work of the ORANGE network in Nigeria.  

 

Mohammed Manga, Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe, Nigeria have an interesting insight to infection control activities of this hospital.

 

Anusha Rohit, Madras Medical Mission in Chennai, India have an interesting insight to infection control activities of her hospital.
